Project Description: An opening on the second floor was located incorrectly. It needed to be enlarged by one foot on one end. This would involve cutting the concrete slab reinforcing steel.
Solution: The engineer requested that an FRP solution be used to replace two #7 bars that would be cut in the slab when the opening is relocated. The fiber wrap reinforcing was to serve as secondary reinforcing only. There was also a requirement to provide a two hour fire rating over the fiber wrap.
Summary: Fibrwrap® Construction designed and installed the FRP required to replace the two #7 bars. The UL approved fire proofing system was applied after the fiber wrap installation. The work area was encumbered with mechanical ducts and piping. Fiber wrap proved to be an effective solution where access would be restricted for other retrofitting systems.
