Project Description: An area in the water treatment plant was being upgraded to allow a change of use. The engineer requested that the composite system achieve a value of 4,400 kips per foot of slab width.
Solution: The strengthening scheme consisted of the application of 12" strips of carbon composites spaced at 12” inches apart. The concrete slab was 5 1/2 " thick and the fiber wrap was applied to the underside of the slab.
Summary: The photographs clearly show the congestion in the area where the strengthening was to be effective. Obviously any other system would have been very difficult to install and would have necessitated the removal of the piping and mechanical accessories in the area. The solution confirms the access friendly feature of the fiber wrap system.
